The return of the Olympics to Europe for the first time in 12 years will be marked by a monumental celebration of the Olympic Spirit. As the countdown continues, Eurosport, the Home of the Olympics in Europe, today outlined its extensive coverage, line-up of acclaimed athletes set to deliver unrivalled insight, and fan-first streaming offer to fans across the UK & Ireland.

Reporting from WBD House, a perfectly positioned Parisian rooftop studio on top of the Hotel Raphael, Eurosport’s coverage promises to deliver the most immersive Olympics across discovery+, the only place to watch every moment of the Games live. 

MEDAL MACHINES, INSPIRATIONAL ICONS AND SPORTING STARS   

Eurosport’s UK & Ireland presentation team, boasting 19 Olympic and Paralympic medals between them, will provide unmatched expertise and inside-views, bringing fans closer to the athletes and their stories than ever before.

Shauna Coxsey, Great Britain’s most-decorated sport climber, and James Cracknell, a two-time rowing Coxless Four gold medal winner, will provide expert commentary across their respective events. 

Five-time Olympian Tom Daley joins the Eurosport on-screen team at the end of his competition, as he bids to defend his diving 10m synchronised title. 

Lutalo Muhammad, a two-time taekwondo Olympic medallist, Joanna Rowsell, a two-time Olympic track cycling team pursuit, and Stef Reid, a two-time track and field Paralympic medallist, will also form part of the punditry team.

Ellie Simmonds, a five-time Paralympic swimming champion, Iwan Thomas, a 4x400m relay silver medallist, and Nile Wilson, a bronze winner in the gymnastics horizontal bar in Rio 2016, will be offering specialist punditry and analysis. 

Orla Chennaoui, known for leading Eurosport’s cycling coverage and featuring in previous Olympics programmingwill present Bonjour Paris; Eurosport 1’s live daily morning show from 7.00am previewing the headline events each day. Laura Woods, who leads TNT Sports’ UEFA Champions League action, will host Bonsoir Paris, the channel’s live daily evening show from 9.00pm, revisiting all the key talking points and stories that day. Delivered from the WBD House rooftop studio, both will be joined by special guests, book-ending the live competition coverage throughout the Games. 

Laura Woods will also lead the coverage of the Opening Ceremony alongside Craig Doyle live from Paris on 26 July, with Iwan Thomas and other guests alongside them throughout.

discovery+, the Streaming Home of the Olympics, will give fans access to all 10,500 athletes and 329 medal moments, with 3,800 hours of live coverage via an extensive network of 55+ live channel feeds, delivering the most comprehensive Olympics broadcast offer across the UK & Ireland. Fans will also be able to follow all their local heroes via a dedicated Team GB Hub, featuring live and catch-up content from all events and competitions. 

discovery+ will be available for just £3.99 per month with a unique Olympics offer*, giving new customers access to the Standard Plan at the discounted price for the rest of the year. The offer will be available via discoveryplus.com from 17 July – 11 August 2024. Offers will also be available via other select subscriptions providers.  

On linear TV, Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 will broadcast wall-to-wall action across every day of competition, with live coverage from 7am -10.30pm daily, totalling 350 live hours, with highlights and replays available through the night. Both Eurosport 1 and 2 will be available on discovery+, so too will seven event-curated Eurosport ‘pop-up’ channels. These dedicated Olympic channels will also be available on a variety of Warner Bros. Discovery partner TV and streaming platforms.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s new ‘Break Free’ Paris 24 marketing campaign launches on 8 July with a new 60-second film which celebrates the joyful vibrancy of Paris’ playground and signifies the ability of streaming users to ‘break free’ and enjoy the Olympics any way they choose. 

NEW PARTNERSHIPS SHOWCASE STRENGTH OF FIRST EUROPEAN GAMES IN 12 YEARS

For the first time since London 2012, fans across Europe can enjoy the biggest moments from the Olympic Games during primetime broadcast windows as Eurosport celebrates its ‘Home Games.’ The appeal from advertisers has never been stronger with Warner Bros. Discovery attracting a record amount of multi-market sponsorship agreements with new and returning premium Presenting Partners including Bridgestone, Samsung and ADP.

New content partnerships with world-leading social media platforms including Snapchat will also bring the Olympics to new fans through exclusive behind-the-scenes content, expanding the reach of the Games for all to enjoy. Millions of fans in France and the UK will be able to enjoy a free daily show on the Snapchat throughout the Games including the wonderful, weird and wacky must-see moments.

THAT’S NOT ALL FOLKS

Warner Bros. Discovery is also leveraging its entire portfolio of much-loved consumer brands and IP to develop new cross-platform content throughout Paris. The iconic characters from the world of Looney Tunes will come together to educate audiences about the performances needed to succeed alongside the perils and pitfalls of different Olympic sports through the new Looney Tunes: Sports Made Simple explainers.

This is alongside new original content launching ahead of the Olympics, including the Eurosport-produced documentary 4 August – An Olympic Odyssey, which premieres on 3 July and analyses the monumental Olympic moments occurring on this date throughout history. From Jesse Owens humiliating Hitler at Berlin 1936; to Fanny Blankers-Koen demolishing prejudices about gender, age and motherhood at London 1948; and Super Saturday gripping Team GB at London 2012, 4 August – An Olympic Odyssey, available on Eurosport and discovery+, illuminates these moments for fans to enjoy.

ENJOYING THE OLYMPICS TO THE MAX

Celebrating its first Olympics as Warner Bros. Discovery, the Olympics Games Paris 2024 will be shown across 47 markets in 19 languages on its new streaming platform Max**** across Europe, on discovery+ in the UK & Ireland, and through Eurosport on linear television.

Following its last Olympic Summer Games as Discovery, record-breaking engagement records for Tokyo 2020 were secured, with over 175 million watching its Olympic coverage on TV and digital, 13 times more than PyeongChang 2018. Almost 200 million additional people watched through partner broadcasters with whom Discovery agreed sublicence agreements, including 45 free-to-air national broadcasters throughout Europe.
