Sasha Velour is a global drag superstar known for jaw-dropping emotional performances, fierce activism, and pushing the boundaries of what drag can be across theatre, TV/film, literature, and visual art.

Hailed as "one of the greatest show creators of our time" (Express & Star), Velour rose to international stardom as the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 9. Her critically acclaimed one-queen shows Sasha Velour's Smoke & Mirrors and The Big Reveal Live Show have toured to over 100 theaters on three continents. Her upcoming stage production Velour: A Drag Spectacular, premieres at the Tony-Award winning La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego. The play is co-produced with Tectonic Theatre Project and director Moises Kaufman, with plans set for Broadway. She is currently one of the new hosts of the upcoming season of HBO’s Emmy-winning unscripted series “We’re Here,” debuting April 26 on HBO and Max.

In 2023, Velour released her bestselling book, The Big Reveal: An Illustrated Manifesto of Drag (Harper Collins) which outlined the untold history of drag alongside her own life story. The book quickly cemented itself as an essential text on queer history, with the LA Review of Books stating that: "The Big Reveal will surely canonize [Velour] as not only one of the best drag queens of her generation but also one of the definitive voices on the history and art of drag." Velour's Good Morning America segment on the book was nominated at the 35th Annual GLAAD Awards for Outstanding Live TV Journalism.

Velour is the founder and director of the widely-known and oft-imitated drag showcase NightGowns, which resumed performances last year with a sold-out residency in New York City’s Le Poisson Rouge and is currently on tour internationally. Velour also executive produced a docuseries adaptation of NightGowns (Roku Channel) directed by Sophie Muller, which won a RealScreen Award in 2021.

An accomplished visual artist as well, Velour created a cover for The New Yorker in 2023 and a Google Doodle honoring Marlene Dietrich in 2018.

Velour lives in Brooklyn with her partner Johnny Velour and their dog, Vanya.
