The beloved children’s book by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrator Clement Hurd comes to life in a half-hour animated special featuring narration by Tracee Ellis Ross and songs from acclaimed musicians. Combining full color and black and white animation with popular songs that help reinforce pivotal story moments, The Runaway Bunny tells the tale of a young bunny who, longing for independence, imagines several scenarios in which he runs away from his mother. But for each of the rabbit’s visions – becoming a fish in a trout stream, a rock on a high mountain, or a crocus in a hidden garden – his mother offers solutions for how she’ll always manage to remain right by his side – as a fisherman, mountain climber, or a gardener. At the end of the story, after facing his fears and discovering his own strength, the young bunny realizes that the sweet pleasures of being little sometimes go hand-in-hand with the delight of being big and decides to “stay where I am and be your little bunny.” Young ones will enjoy the playful, rhythmic language and colorful dreamscapes of this imaginary game of hide-and-seek between mother and child – and above all else, they’ll find comfort in this story about a parent’s unconditional love.
